conference attendees will weigh in (via electronic voting) on questions posed by
the moderator. Panel members from health care institutions and academia will
then respond to the outcomes of the votes.

4:30--5:30 Magnet Panel Update with Amy Steinbinder, RN, PhD., System
Director - Clinical Practice, Banner Health , Managing Partner, Thunderbird
Leadership Consulting and Marty Enriquez, RN, MS, VP, Patient Care Services/CNO,
UMC-Tucson - The panelists will share two important aspects of Magnet Status
- what is involved in achieving Magnet Status, as well as what happens "after
the designation." The panelists will also share how Magnet Status has affected
their hospitals.

10:30-11:30 Legislative Update - Bill Welch, President/CEO of Nevada Hospital
Association & Margaret Covelli, NONL President—We will hear of the predicted
issues that may arise in the 2009 Legislative Session, as well as NONL's
anticipated role during the session.
11:30-1:00pm Lunch in Exhibitor's Hall. (Savoy Room)
1:00-2:30 Keynote Address: Linda Deering RN, MSN, COO at Sherman Health, as well
as a Studer Coach, will bring her real life experiences to us as she starts us
thinking of how transparency will require us to raise the bar for performance.
She will help us define new skills and behaviors, and learn how transparency can
turn tough times into success. Linda has led her organizations to achieve
inpatient satisfaction increases from the 75th% to the 95th%, turnover from 34%
to 14%, and operating margin from 1% to 10%. She has also obtained Magnet
Nursing Designation.

3:00-4:00 Judith G. Berg, RN, MS, FACHE Vice President, Professional and
Consulting Services Gannett Healthcare Group - "Evidence based leadership -
Increasing your personal ROI" While it may seem that some people have innate
leadership skills and the rest of us should quit trying, the evidence suggests
otherwise. This session will focus on behaviors that can be employed by anyone
to increase their personal leadership effectiveness.

Excellence, Catholic Healthcare West—Healthcare Transparency – Are You Ready to
Lead? - While this session will briefly cover the strategies CHW used to improve
the perception of the patient experience (as evidenced by moving from the 13th
percentile to the 75th percentile in patient loyalty and endorsement), the main
content of the presentation will cover the lessons learned in ownership and
accountability.

10:45-12:15 Endnote Speaker: Bob Murphy, RN, Esq., FACHE, Studer
Group—”Achieving Excellence in Healthcare - How Good Can We Be?” a
well-known operations leader and national health care presenter from the Studer
Group, will share his extensive experiences as our end-note speaker. He will
ensure that we leave our conference with a renewed commitment to transparency by
helping us understand our role in achieving excellence. By applying techniques
to define excellence in healthcare, we will understand the importance that
public reporting plays in creating a sense of urgency.
